Hisminimalistdesignapproach,andintegrationofecologicalprincipleswithmodernartismaybebestdemonstratedwiththe“RedRibbon”project.Asingleredsteelstructureweavesthroughanaturalparksite.Theredribboncontainsallthelighting,providesseatinganddisplaysnativeplants.Butperhapsthemoststrikingprojectwasthe“GoldenRice”design.Hetransformedauniversitycampusintoricepaddyfields.Nativeplantslinedtheboardwalkscuttingthroughthepaddyfieldsandsmallcul-de-sacswerecreatedwherestudentscouldgathertotalkandstudy.Everyspringtheprofessorsandstudentsgathertoplantthepaddyandeveryfallagaintoharvest.Inthisway,sustainablefoodproductionisdemonstratedandanancientpartofthecultureispreserved.“Weneedmoreproductivelandscapeslikethis,”saysDr.Yu.
